The Mosaic Road

And the first portrait is..

Nabil and Tasnime with their three children, Ramin, Rafin and Khdijah.

This lovely family portrait was chosen by a public vote from a shortlist of 10 pictures featuring Balsall Heath locals of different ages, occupations and backgrounds. It was a tough choice but the image made a real impact, with voters commenting on the multigenerational group, the cheerful colours of their clothes and the sense of unity and happiness that comes across.

One said: “Of all of the portraits, it’s the most representative snapshot of the Balsall Heath community – men, women, boys, girls – all ages, fab colors, lovely smiles, lovely composition, quirkiness, togetherness, very tender, family feeling, a wonderful feel-good feel. Love it.”

Nabil and Tasnime, Ramin, Rafin and Khdijah are local residents and regulars at Balsall Heath Second Saturdays. We were delighted to see them again at our tile making workshop on 11 June where the kids decorated tiles that will go on the borders of the photo mosaics with some fantastic self-portraits. We look forward to seeing them again soon!

Keep eyes peeled for the second round of voting. Updates will be on here and Instagram.
